Rhetorical Analysis

Book

The book that i read showed the ethical implications of cloning. The book used two sheeps as its visual on the title page to show animals cloned. The book showed many different ways why cloning can be ethical and unethical. It seems as if the book would be for ages twenty and older because of the way the book gives it examples. Both males and females can read this book and not get offended. Also professors would most lkley use this text.

The book soucre used regular people as their examples of people getting affected. The book argues about the implications and explains that people can clone for the wrong reasons. This book can be used to show why cloning is unethical and it shows how middle class can be affected.

Film

The film used clone armies as thier visual toto show that clones can bring huge changes to a place. Textual elements would be at the beginning of the movie when they show the story of the clone army. It shows that these armies are very strong. People fron the age of 10 and up can watch this movie and the movie shows the how clones can change the world.

They used regular people such as luke skywalker to portray the regular people that will be effected on earth. The movie showed why the clones attacked and how they got so strong. Emotion that was shown in the film was when darth vader said "luke i am your father". The film is basically showing the implications of what will happen to people if clones are made.

Song

This was very interesting because the song was by one of my favorite artists. Eminem with his crazy lyrics and thoughts made this song show how clone would not seem like real people. He uses visuals of himself and many clones that are trying to look like him. his text says that no one can be the real slim shady. Also he argues that no clone can match him. This song is very explicit and should only be heard by age 18 and up. no grandparents though.

In this song slim shady shows that no one can be close to the real him. His crazy lyrics show how emotional he is about the subject. He shows alot of clone look alikes but they still cant be like him. this type of reasoning shows that a clone cannot be a regular person. Thats what its implying. Slim shady make sure he shows that by being vulgar.

Image

in the image the visual is of many clones Mr. smiths from the matrix movie. There is no textual information but the arguement is that power can come with numbers. This is shown because there is many evil faces on one picture and it is all of many clones

The many clones show appeal to the amount of clones that could possible be in the world. The clones in the picture show no emotion. all the faces are the same. They all have the same attributes which make all the clones seem unchangeable. They all seem to have to be the same person.

This weeks posting is about an interview with toni morrison. She is a famous writer who wrote the books beloved and loved. She is an author that has gone through many things in her life and she writes her lines with Love. She thinks she has not written her best work and she thinks when you keep writing over and over your writing will get better. She also has alot to say about life and she uses these ideas to write the characters in her books.

My reaction to this interview made me view thing alot different in life. She had many things that i have went through in my life written in her book. She also said that you should do the things that you need to do in life. she takes these ideas and writes about it in her book. i think that the ideas that she has in her life reflect to my life. she onbly does what she loves. Thats exactly what i want. people try to hold me back because they think i make stupid decisions. And i got myself to college in the first place.

This interview reflects many peoples lives. I think that her book loved show that people need real love in there life. She said one line that really stuck in my head. Two nights stand trying to last a season. Sex the clown of love. thes two lines reflected how i feel about relationships. although people are suppose to live a "college life" it doesnt mean you have to go crazy and have sex with everyone. im different cause im actually in a relationship. i watch as everyone has such a different life style. Sometimes people dont understand me. Just because i dont have sex with the whole world. lol

1. Have you ever been in real love?
2. What do you think college life should be like.
3. What is your definition of love?

4/13 Response (ALSO 19TH BDAY!!!!!)

Well in this weeks reading we went away from voglers hero journey once again. We actually focused on an article about the simpsons and it value on televsion. In the reading it talked about how the show was a bif risk for Fox's television company. This was because the simpsons played with many American Values that citizens deal with everyday. The Simpsons show played with many of those elements and actually made everything that might have been seriously in our american econmy very humorous. This show was criticized on many different ways for is lack of discpiline and respect for the American culture.

My reaction to this peice was positive. Atlhough i knew the simpsons was very funny i still believe that it is quite wrong to destroy American values. People that are living well in life may watch the show in laugh because they dont have almost any of the problems a regular middle class family would. They laugh because they never see them sleves in such bad situatution. On the other hand people that are lower class will look at this and not find this as humorous. They see these hardships and they see themselves struggling everyday.

This article reflected to many tv shows that are on tv today. Alot of the shows on tv reflect the same values as the show the simpsons. These shows show life in a different perspective of life. These shows stretch out American values to the fullest and they destroy them. This might be funny to people that dont have these problems. but people with these problems may see this as disrespect.

1. Are you discrimnated against in the Simpsons?
2. Do you find the simpsons harm American values?
3. What shows on tv reflect the simpsons?

This weeks reading we switched it up a little bit. We threw vogler to the curb and started read The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir. This book was actually about females. I find this very interesting because females are an important part of this earth. In this book she explains that women are basically charcterized by men. Women have always been judged and til this day are still judged. She finds that she should not even have to talk about this anymore because the topic has been drug around for many years. In this book she asks many questions about women. she really gets deep into the topic of women to try to explain why they have been oppressed for many years.

I think this reading can pretty much match my life. I am a black college student. Although slavery has been out of power for many years i still sometimes feel like i am opressed and catogorized as other. Women , even white women have been opressed for years and havent been giving the priveleges that they need and want. i think the same thing goes for me. Sometimes i feel like i am not apart of a "white" society and i feel like people are privleged when it comes to their color. i still think people are racist and doubtful of "black" people and althoughthey might not think they are they look down on us. Ive ran into many situations that have made me un comfortable and that is why to this day i still think blacks are opressed just like women.

I also so can reflect this to playing basketball. There are so many players around the world. Only those few players get their shots to play bvasketball and the big leagues. Alot of players are the same buyt the ones who mo ve forward are the players who have been on the big scene since they were young. If you have not been doin that then you really dont get a chance at playing on high named teams . i think this is kind of how women get oppressed. The kids who doont get much exposure are the ones who hardly get a shot at doing anything.

1. Have you ever been opressed?
2.Do you feel that women are still less priveleged.
3. Are women capable of doing the same things a man can do in any situations?

This weeks reading of volger had two sections that furthered the journey of a hero. The first section was called Approach to The Inmost Cave. This section basically explained a hero after making their adjustment to the special world. When the hero approaches the inmost cave they approach something that They are not familiar with. They approach wonder and terror as they are about to fall into the supreme ordeal. This runs right into the next chapter which is The Ordeal. This is when The Hero runs into his worse fear or enemy. this is where they must face the real monster!

These to chapters wwere very similar to my life. I reacted to these as if this was the story of my life. As i played basketball i approached my inmost cave when i started to become good. I became good and got used to being good which was the special world. As i did this i started to approach the inmost cave of high level compettition. This was hard because i was not used to that talent yet although i was good. Next i went through and Ordeal in my life. i had to face the SAT which was very difficult. I hated standardized tests and it was the monster of my life. I still conquered it though so i was happy.

Last but not least these to chapters can be relfected to school life at eckerd. Its pretty easy when you think about it. In class my inmost cave was when i came to school and actually took my first test. i got used to doing reading in class for the first weeks then that inmost cave of a test came. it hit pretty hard. The ordeal in class was actually writing essays. Those essays can take days of slaving over. and i think that is really scary

1.What is your inmost cave?
2.What is your Ordeal?
3.What movie can you find both of these situations in?

This weeks Vogler reading has two sections that are apart of the important hero's journey. The first section is about crossing the first threshold. Vogler explains that this is the point in which a character comes to a problem or change in the story that makes the hero have to make a tough decsion. This is were the hero runs into a villian or does somethin that will change there lives. The next section is about test, allies, and enemies. This section jus show that a hero will run inton these different types of people. The tests help the hero learn from there mistakes or move on in the story. Allies can stay with the hero along there journey's and enemies are there in the story to give the hero conflict . some enemies can even turn into allies.

As i read vogler i reacted postively toward it because it related to basketball. In basketball i had to cross the firsat threshold by actually playing in my first organized game. i didnt really know how to dribble and shoot but my dad put me out there and i found a way. As i went on to play in middle shool, high school, and now college i have been through many tests, and met many allies and enemies. I had to put myself through tests by playing in championship games. and along the way i met many allies which are still friends today. on the court i also have many enemies. actually everyone is my enemy if they are my opponent.

As i read i found many ways to reflect on Voglers reading. In class i think we have to cross the first threshold by doing our first essay. Because the first essay is the hardest because you dont feel like writing a 100pages about a stupid topic. Also we do tests which in writing is our knowledge nuggets. i have also become friends with the allies and my knowledge circle. they help me when i need it. Enemies? that the only thing i dont really have. Enemies might be the short readings that are actually very long. they are pretty tricky. it kind of

1. What tests do u have in life?
2. How has an allie helped you through life?
3.What was your first Threshold crossing?
